Mindy Felinton

My Story

From a young age, I wanted to be the voice that would make an impact in people’s lives.   I became an attorney and have practiced law for over 30 years, so that I could (fulfil my desire to help others).  As a special prosecutor, I defended the underdog (literally) in cases of animal abuse.  As a state attorney in Florida, I fought for justice. In the last several years, I met many wonderful people who did not know their rights, did not understand the law, and did not know what options were available. I made a decision to focus my practice on Elder Law, Medicaid, Veterans’ benefits, and Estate Planning.  I am able to guide my clients through those difficult and sometimes overwhelming processes.  This is how I choose to make an impact on others.

The reason for the strength in my voice is my passion, which was ignited by my own life experiences. When I was only 18 years old, my father passed away, leaving my mother, brothers and me behind.  I was very close to my dad, and losing him was one of the most difficult things I ever faced. But my dad didn’t leave me empty-handed.  He left me with a myriad of memories and a mountain of inspiration.  Beyond serving his family, he served his country in World War II.  My deep connection with my dad kindled a desire to help surviving spouses of veterans receive the benefits they need and deserve.*  My mom, now 92 years young and the surviving spouse of a veteran, also inspires me to help others like her.

Another critical time for me was a Sunday, 9 years ago, when I received a call from my brother Harold. It was then, that I learned about the death of my brother Louie.  He died that horrific Sunday from a heart attack at the young age of 56. What he left behind, was a very sad, shocked and overwhelmed family. Louie had certainly expected to be around for his family. He didn’t have any plans in place to protect them from this devastation. My poor sister in law Margot was left to clean up a horrible mess.

About Mindy

Mindy’s Brother, Louie

My long-time commitment to serving the elderly and their families was born years ago when the phone rang, and I heard the panic-stricken voice of my friend on the line.  She was terrified that she was going to lose her home because of the devastating cost of her husband’s nursing home care.  Another dear friend sought my advice when she discovered that her husband had early onset Alzheimer’s.  Seeing their desperate need for help stirred my compassion for them and for the many families who have similar stories.  That is where it all began for me.  That is why I am passionate about my field.

Being an elder law and estate planning attorney allows me to help people who, like my friends, need someone on their side to help them create a solid plan to protect their assets through both short term and long term planning, as well as help them obtain benefits to care for their loved ones.

Experience has taught me to speak up for others; but it has also taught me to listen.   In order to best serve my clients, I truly believe that it is just as important to listen as it is to speak.  Learning about what is most important to each client and crafting a proper plan that works for them is paramount.  My Dad always said I better listen to him, or else!!!
